As we ramp up to our Independence Day celebrations, a few thoughts crossed my mind!
Biblical Principles Of Independence Day In America
Independence Day is a momentous occasion that marks our freedom from colonial rule. As we celebrate Independence Day, it is essential to remember the biblical principles that have helped shape the nation. These principles have guided the country's leaders in the past and continue to guide them as they move into the future. There are four central principles we must never forget:
1) FREEDOM. The Bible teaches that freedom is a fundamental right of every human being. In Galatians 5:1, Paul writes, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." This verse speaks to the idea that every person should have the freedom to live their life without being under the tyranny of others. The founding fathers understood this principle and fought tooth and nail to secure their freedom from British colonial rule. 2) JUSTICE. The Bible teaches that justice is an essential part of God's character. Proverbs 21:15 says, "When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers." Justice is a critical element of American democracy, and the nation's founders built the legal system on the principles of fairness, integrity, and impartiality. They recognized that justice is critical for maintaining a just and civilized society. 3) UNITY. The Bible teaches that unity is vital for building a solid community. In Psalm 133:1, we read, "How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!" The founding fathers recognized we need to be united to achieve independence. They worked tirelessly to build a coalition of people from all over the country who realized this. 4) COURAGE. The Bible teaches that courage is a necessary virtue for achieving great things. In Joshua 1:9, we read, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." The founding fathers were courageous in their efforts to fight for our independence. They knew the road ahead would be challenging but determined to achieve their goal. Our Independence Day celebrates these founding principles: freedom, justice, unity, and courage. The celebrations we enjoy with family and friends on the 4th are fun and memorable, but let's never forget the founding principles that allow us to enjoy these things.
Happy Fourth!!! -Guy
